CMC Students Learn About Cultural Heritage-Restoration Project

The Childhood home of Oscar Wilde, 1855 - 1878

American College Dublin came into possession of this house in 1994 and was presented with an extremely generous donation in 1998 by Tina & William E. Flaherty, New York City, which has provided the College with the much needed funds to undertake a series of restoration works, under the guidance of Mrs. Ellen Ross Sarafian, Curator of the Oscar Wilde House.
The Clementina & William E. Flaherty Cultural Centre enables the College to host many interesting exhibitions and it has become an integral part of the artistic and cultural life in Dublin and has quickly become a highly desirable exhibition venue amongst the artistic community both in Ireland and overseas.
The Oscar Wilde House restoration project involved the revival of traditional crafts to repair plasterwork and joinery and restore the original stone and wooden floors found throughout the house.
The hall, stairs, landing & first floor have all been decorated with period paints and antique mirrors, rugs and fabrics. Reproduction furniture of Irish Georgian design was specially commissioned for the house and was modelled on the furniture found in many of the historic houses around Ireland.
Students attending the American College Dublin have the opportunity to study in the Oscar Wilde House, many of whom are International/ American students who have chose to study on of the degree, master diploma programs at American College Dublin or to spend a semester at the college, as part o our Study Abroad Programme. These students are privileged to be able to study in the unique atmosphere of the Oscar Wilde House.

Space still available for the Summer 2010 Study in Ireland!
